Or hold down option and pick the CD to boot from. If you can get a disc into the drive, then power it off, plug it back into the iMac and hold down 'c' to boot from a CD. Just to make sure about the drive (because I've never heard of the 'paper clip port' breaking, try plugging the drive into power but NOT into a computer, then try opening it with the button on the front.
Nope, no third party RAM aside from the two 256MB sticks that came with it. I pushed it *straight* in and pushed smoothly/hard and the hard drive pushed along my desk and into the wall. Does the computer have to be on for it to work ? I've only done it on computers that were turned on LaCie CD-RW.

Hopefully the Apple guys can fix it without charging me the price of a mac mini. I did want to buy a tower when they came out, but I sort of wanted to keep my iMac ): My G4 iMac can barely run anything anymore. I hope Apple release those intel towers very soon or else I'm going to go crazy only being able to load AIM and websites on this tired old bondi blue.
